Learn About Diana

The eldest Burrow sister, the business manager, and communications specialist of Witches on Wheels; author, wife and witch - what is there to know about Diana?

Just like Lilibet did her own "Ten Things to Know", this is my own version. I've also included a little bit about Thea, our youngest sister.

(One extra thing about me before we get started is that my husband loves to take pictures of me when I'm eating - an ironic twist since my parents always told me I'd never get a husband because he'd always be embarrassed with my terrible table manners and how I'm always stuffing my face... instead, I found a man obsessed with snapping me in these moments... even on our wedding day!)

1. My witch name is based on a goddess - but also my grandma. She was very charismatic, quite like Lilibet, and has always played a big role in the Burrow sisters' lives even though she died before we were born. The goddess Diana is often considered a triple deity because she is often merged with goddess of the moon (Selene) and the underworld (Hecate).

2. Speaking of the triple aspect of my name: I have always loved the night - and if there is any "magic" ritual I will always do it by moonlight. I also have a strong connection to the underworld. Not in a sense that I am clairvoyant or can speak to the dead, but when I was young I often talked about my past lives - giving off facts that a three year old wouldn't know.

3. I believe in reincarnation. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed, so I believe whatever makes up our "soul" is absorbed and converted into another form. I'm not entirely sure about the afterlife beyond that, but in any ritual I will always phrase a spell/incantation to pray to my ancestors rather than a goddess as I believe we all have power from who came before us.

4. I've mentioned rituals/spells/magic quite a few times now, so I wanted to clarify my stance. I don't believe in any prescribed rules of any religion, even Wicca. I just believe that when it comes to the spiritual aspects of life, you should follow your own path. I don't believe you should ever follow a text written by someone else from a different time period because that was someone else's interpretation of how the world and Universe works. My own spiritual path is built up with ideas and concepts from numerous different religions or philosophical thinking that came to me naturally. In any of my writings for the magazine - tips on spells, ideas on crystals, etc. this will all be a guide, so if it doesn't seem like something you believe or that you're interested in, that won't matter. It's all about your interpretation of the craft. You only get one life, so live it following your own path - not the one someone else paved for you.

5. I whole-heartedly believe in soulmates. I don't believe you need one to be "complete", not entirely like the Plato's theory. I believe that out in the Universe is someone who is made to be your perfect companion in every way. They share your principles, your sense of humour, they make your life happier just by existing. They're your best friend.
After a series of bad boyfriends, my mum and I actually prayed to the Universe for me to find my soulmate - listing the characteristics we were looking for. A few months later, on a blind date, I met my husband. I have never been so sure that soulmates existed until him. Even when my own parents met when they were 11 (my mum immediately on first sight decided she was going to marry my dad), dated, lost touch and managed to find each other again. My husband is also the perfect big brother to my sisters  - they absolutely adore him - and he's a great son-in-law. Which, of course, had to happen because he wouldn't be my soulmate if he didn't fit in with my family.

6. I have a familiar. Not the devil-spying on me kind you might find the definition of in 1600s texts. But all the Burrow women are dog-orientated. Our fur-babies are as much of the family as any. I saw Beatrice one day and instantly knew that she was the one for me. (Which was why my husband drove us 250 miles to get her). She's named after the feisty Shakespearian character from Much Ado About Nothing - my favourite Shakespeare play (I even wrote a book based on it).

7. My sisters are insanely important in my life - as you might expect since we decided to form a business together to spend more time. The way that we grew up at the Burrow house meant that our best and most fiercest friends were ourselves. Lilibet and I have been insanely close since she was born. We dressed as twins for most of our young life, spent every waking second with each other and even had "sleepovers" - which meant she'd come into my bed and starfish... we shared a room until we left for university, so we've always been insanely close in a literal sense, too.
Calithea, (Thea we call her), and I only got close after I moved away from home and we grew up. There's an eight year age difference between us so it was difficult relating to one another when we were younger. Now that she's older, she spends most weekends around at our house, stealing our juice and demanding sweet and sour from my husband. She's exceptionally skilled when it comes to beauty regimens, and will no doubt one day join Witches on Wheels as fellow cosmetic expert to Lilibet.

8. I've been a writer since I was two (before I could form my letters on a page), but only a published author in the past year. I wrote my debut New Adult Romance, Taken in Isolation, in two weeks over lockdown. My inspiration was based on what small towns would do to cope through being isolated, and what nefarious things could people get away with - plus, steamy hate-to-love romance since I'd been reading a dime a dozen of those at the time.
That's not to say New Adult Romance is my genre, it was simply the easiest book to write because it didn't require any lore or world building as my usual books do. The first book I ever wrote was Twice Bitten, a novel I started after my Twilight phase back in school. I recently decided to go back to that novel and have it published for December 2020 since Midnight Sun was being published.
Lilibet read a thousand drafts of my vampire book back in the day, but recently it has always been Thea who has read my novels. I always use her as a soundboard to see if my guys are swoon-worthy enough, or if there are any plot holes or things that are overly complicated to a person outside my brain.

9. I am a compulsive reader - more so than a writer. In lockdown, I read over a hundred books... not an exaggeration, actually. I consume books like people watch a film and have to read it all in one go, and preferably one book after the other if there is a trilogy or series. Most of my writing ideas come from books I just really wish were on the shelf to read, but I can't find. Most of the time I wish someone else would just hurry up and write my idea so I could read the book since it takes so darn long for me to write them!

10. I love travelling. For my sten-do (a joint hen/stag party) we went to Barcelona and the apartment Lilibet chose was just so wonderful I imagined living there for 3 months and just getting to know Barcelona. My husband and try to go to Scotland each year and went to Inverness for our honeymoon. One thing that I will always be grateful for is that my husband has always shown me the world - and I can't wait to have a lifetime of travel and seeing what this world has to offer.

And that concludes the 10 things about me! I hope you feel like you've gotten to know me a little better and would love to hear about any of you who are reading this. Please comment below a little about you if you would like to share.

Blessed Be,

Diana Greenbird
